- Say: You may begin.
- At halfway point of each paper: Half time.
- At 60 seconds left: One minute remaining.
- Stop at time. Do not add minutes.
- For Speaking, say: Please begin when you are ready at the start of Part 2, and thank you at 120 seconds.
Paper by paper rules
Listening mini
- 10 to 15 questions from one section.
- Read questions first. Underline numbers, totals, negatives.
- Write answers in clear capitals. Check spelling of names and numbers.
Trap filter
Before you start, mark synonyms for key words. Example: increase = rise, grow, go up.
Reading mini
- One passage, 10 to 14 questions.
- Scan titles, first lines, and last lines to map the passage.
- Spend 1 minute mapping, then answer in order for question types with known order, such as matching headings and sentence completion.
Writing Task 2
- 35 or 20 minutes depending on layout.
- Plan 4 lines: claim, reason 1, reason 2, example, mini conclusion.
- Keep sentences short and concrete. Use one cause or contrast per sentence.
Safe close
On balance, this works best when resources are targeted.
Speaking Part 2 plus Part 3
- Part 2: 1 minute plan, 1 to 2 minute talk.
- Part 3: 4 to 10 questions. Aim for 60 to 90 seconds per answer.
- Use CIRCLE: Claim, reason 1, reason 2, concrete example, limit, end line.
Marking and quick bands
Listening and Reading
- Count correct answers.
- Guide only: 30 to 31 correct ≈ 7.0, 32 to 34 ≈ 7.5, 35 to 36 ≈ 8.0. Forms vary, so use trends across weeks, not one score.

- Task Response: clear position and two developed reasons
- Coherence: logical order, varied linking, reference words
- Lexis: precise common words, accurate topic terms
- Grammar: mix of simple and complex with few errors
Total 10 to 12 is a strong draft. Edit once for concision.

Example: peak hour corridor pilot.
