How to use this bank

  1. Pick one category below.
  2. Read the quick pattern notes.
  3. Play or read the mini scripts out loud and answer the listed prompts.
  4. Check your answers, then repeat at higher speed.
  5. Log three numbers after each session: correct items, number mistakes, and transfer errors.

Aim for two categories per day. Keep each run short and focused.

Why notices and announcements matter

Parts 1 and 2 include many short messages: opening hours, ticket rules, route changes, closures, safety advice, booking terms, and small exceptions. These clips are fast and information dense. Most answers live in five places:

  • Times and dates
  • Prices and codes
  • Locations and directions
  • Conditions and exceptions
  • Names and contact channels

Master those patterns and your accuracy rises in every section.

Core patterns you will hear

Time windows

  • from 9 to 5
  • between 10 and 12
  • after 6 pm
  • no later than 3 pm
  • at least 24 hours before

Date styles

  • Monday the 14th
  • 14 June
  • 14.06
  • the first weekend in July

Money and units

  • 39.50
  • 2 for 1
  • up to 20 kilograms
  • under 5s free

Location cues

  • opposite, next to, behind, at the corner, across from
  • platform 4, gate B12, room 3.18

Condition words

  • except, unless, only if, provided that, subject to, in case of

Correction signals

  • sorry, I mean, rather, actually

Policy switches

  • previously, now, currently, from next week, with immediate effect

Keep these lists in view while you practice. They are the engine of real announcements.

Abbreviations and shorthand you can safely use in notes

  • time: 9am, 4.30pm, wknd, wkdy
  • money: £, €, tk
  • movement: L, R, STR, oppo, nx, nr
  • connectives: bc, so, but, ex, vs
  • conditions: if, else, only, except
  • transport: plat, gate, stand, bay
  • places: dept, lab, lib, hall, café, admin
  • corrections: C in the margin when the speaker revises a detail

Speed, accuracy, and transfer: the three metrics to track

Speed
Target a clean capture at normal pace. If you can shadow the line while writing key words, your speed is fine. Do not chase fast audio until your accuracy is stable.

Accuracy
Your main measure is correct blanks out of attempted blanks. For short notices, target 85 percent. If your score is lower, you are writing too much or missing modifiers.

Transfer
You win or lose marks on the answer sheet. Expand abbreviations neatly. Check spelling, hyphen, and number form. Move in a fixed order so you do not skip a box.

Number guard in detail

Numbers are the most frequent answers in notices. Protect them with three habits.

  1. Unit first, then figure
Write £ 39.99, not 39.99 pounds. Write kg 20, not 20 kg. The unit guides your attention.
  2. Pairs for neighbors
When two times or prices sit close, write digits in two groups. 5 15 vs 5 50 is safer than 5.15 and 5.50.
  3. Threshold symbols
At least, at most, under, up to. Use ≥, ≤, <, up to in your notes. On transfer, write the required words.

Practice a ten line number drill daily for one week. Expect mistakes to drop quickly.

Conditions and exceptions

Small words flip answers. Treat them like numbers.

  • except public holidays
  • only if you book online
  • unless you have a permit
  • provided that you show ID
  • in case of heavy rain

When you hear one, draw a small triangle and write the condition. If a question asks for a rule, add the exception or you will miss the mark.

Correction events

Short notices often include one revision. The first detail is wrong, the second is right. Your response is simple.

  • Mark C in the margin at sorry or actually
  • Strike the first fact once
  • Write the final fact and move on

Do not rewrite the whole line. The next answer is coming quickly.

Note layout for this task type

Keep your page clean and predictable.

  • Two columns work for most notices: labels on the left, answer slots on the right.
  • For transport, draw a tiny table with time, platform or gate, delay, and remarks.
  • For safety, list the steps in order and reserve one line for the assembly point or contact number.

Write less during audio and more during transfer. Your marks do not come from pretty notes. They come from exact answers.

Two week study plan

Day 1
Transport updates and library notices. Run scripts A and B. Track number losses.

Day 2
Museum briefings and venue notices. Focus on time windows and late entry rules.

Day 3
Construction and maintenance. Add a map line or two for movement words.

Day 4
Safety and public health. Train condition words. Expect one correction in each script.

Day 5
Retail and refunds. Practice threshold symbols and exchange rules.

Day 6
Accommodation and residence. Mix time windows and building names.

Day 7
Sports and facilities. Focus on booking windows and shoe or equipment rules. Light review.

Day 8
Repeat your weakest two categories from last week. Raise audio speed slightly.

Day 9
Build a 10 clip mixed set. Include two corrections and one exception per five clips.

Day 10
Add background noise at low level. Protect numbers and conditions.

Day 11
Create your own two scripts for campus or work life. Read them at speed and answer your own prompts.

Day 12
Run two full Part 2 style clusters with maps or plans that link to notices.

Day 13
Mock day. Sit a 30 minute session: 20 clips across five categories.

Day 14
Autopsy. Sort mistakes into numbers, conditions, corrections, transfer. Plan one fix per label for the next week.

Targets by Day 14

  • 85 percent correct on short clips
  • Zero number losses in transport or price clips
  • 90 percent correction capture
  • Transfer errors at or near zero

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • I always miss one word that flips the meaning
You are skipping condition markers. Underline except or unless on the question sheet when visible. Train triangle notes for conditions.
  • I copy whole sentences then fall behind
Impose a seven word cap per line. Write only the answer word, number, or a two letter code.
  • Times and prices keep swapping in my head
Write unit first and digits in pairs. Say the unit quietly as you write.
  • I forget to transfer one or two answers
Move in a fixed order. For a grid, go row by row. For a list, go top to bottom. Do not hop.
  • I panic at a correction
Expect one in every set. Mark C and strike once. Trust the process.

Do and avoid checklist

Do

  • Preview prompts and predict numbers, places, or conditions
  • Keep a clean two column layout for speed
  • Use unit first and digit pairs for numbers
  • Mark C for corrections and a triangle for exceptions
  • Transfer in a fixed order with a spelling hyphen number check

Avoid

  • Full sentences while the audio runs
  • Guessing beside and behind on maps
  • Changing a correct number during transfer without a reason
  • Ignoring small words like only or up to
  • Flipping platform or gate because you looked down too long

Glossary

  • Window: the period when something is allowed, such as 9 to 12
  • Threshold: a minimum or maximum value such as at least 5
  • Exception: a condition that limits a rule, for example except public holidays
  • Correction event: a revision like sorry or actually that replaces an earlier detail
  • Transfer: the final step where notes become answers on the sheet
  • Neighbor numbers: similar figures that sit close together, for example 5.15 and 5.50

Routine card for practice and exam day

  • Predict answer type for each item
  • Unit first, digits in pairs, eyes up
  • Write only the answer word or number
  • Mark C at corrections and triangle at exceptions
  • Transfer clockwise with a quick spelling hyphen number scan

Use this bank daily. Short, realistic lines build the habits that win points. When numbers, conditions, and corrections are automatic in your notes, real notices stop being traps. They become easy marks you collect without stress.
